(The Inter-Mountain/Gary Mallonee)

WALKING FOR THE CHILDREN — Ed Wiley, from Marsh Fork, stopped in Buckhannon Friday on his 455-mile walk from Charleston to Washington D.C., to raise awareness for the health and safety of the students at Marsh Fork Elementary School. Marsh Fork School is just 225 feet from a coal sludge impoundment. Wiley hopes to raise awareness not only for Marsh Fork children, but for all children in Appalachia. Wiley hopes to meet with U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd. D-W.Va., and representatives from the federal Mine, Safety and Health Administration to deliver letters regarding the problems at Marsh Fork.
