Raising Money For New Marsh Fork School

Staff
Raleigh County

Some Raleigh County residents are working to raise money for a new Marsh Fork Elementary School.

The group has launched a fundraising campaign, called Pennies of Promise, in hopes of collecting enough money to construct a new facility for the roughly 300 students that currently attend Marsh Fork Elementary School.

The current school building sits 225 feet from a coal loading silo and 400 yards downstream from a coal waste sludge dam.

Residents claim that is producing high levels of coal dust, which is a hazard to folks inside the school.

So far organizers of the fundraising campaign have collected about 500 dollars. A new school is estimated to cost about 5 million dollars.
