Governor Joe Manchin says representatives of a number of state agencies will meet Thursday to discuss the future of Marsh Fork Elementary School.

Manchin says the DHHR and DEP will talk about recent developments at a mining operation near the school. The DEP has approved a permit for a silo at Goals Coal, just a few hundred feet away from the building.

The governor sent his lead attorney to Raleigh County Wednesday to meet with local and state school officials to see if there's any other building that could house the school. Thursday's meeting with state agencies will take place in Charleston.

Manchin says he won't tell the DEP how to do its job. He says if the agency followed the permitting process, the decision should stand.

Governor Manchin says what is appropriate for him to do is to make sure the citizens and children are in the safest environment they can be.
