West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin has agreed to look at Massey Energy's coal opearations in near a Raleigh County school and the possibility of relocating the school. Manchin made the promise to a man who staged a sit-in at the West Virginia state Capitol yesterday to draw attention to coal mining operations next to his granddaughter's school.Ed Wiley stayed at the Capitol for about five hours to protest Richmond-based Massey's operations near Marsh Fork Elementary. West Virginia's Department of Environmental Protection recently granted a permit that allows a Massey subsidiary to build a coal storage silo about 260 feet from the school. The D-E-P has also renewed a permit for a 385-foot-high dam that holds back (m) millions of gallons of liquid coal waste. Wiley and other area residents worry the silo will expose students to coal dust and chemicals. They also worry about the safety of the dam.But a Massey spokeswoman says the operations meet all regulatory requirements
