Locals Arrested At Massey Protest

Two West Virginians are arrested for trespassing on to Massey headquarters trying to deliver a list of demands.

The arrests happened at a rally in Richmond Virginia Wednesday.

Herb Elkins of Coal River Valley and Hannah Thurman of Liberty and 18 others have been arrested in the last two months for trying to deliver the same demands.

Last month, people living in the Coal River Valley and a group called Coal River Mountain Watch held a rally at Massey's Goals Coal Company in Raleigh County.

Wednesday's trip was an attempt to talk with C-E-O Don Blankenship or Corporate Counsel Kevin Yocum.

Citizens are demanding that Massey shut down its preparation plant, coal silo, mountaintop removal mine site and 2.8 billion-gallon coal sludge dam located near a local elementary school .
