Sludge Safety Project Action Alert Feb. 10, 2006

Press Conference for Sludge Safety on E-Day! Tues, Feb. 14
The
Sludge Safety Project will have a table at West Virginia Environmental Council's E-Day! on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Look for us on the first floor of the Capitol, near the Lower Rotunda (under the dome). At noon, right at the Lower Rotunda, SSP will have a press conference to discuss coal sludge impoundment and coal slurry injection legislation. Speakers include people whose well water has been contaminated by coal slurry injection, people who live in the shadow of leaking coal sludge impoundments and legislators who are sponsoring legislation that will make coalfield communities safer.

Please stop by our table to pick up postcards you can deliver to legislators, then join us for our press conference. Many of you should have received these postcards in a mailing from us. If you didn't receive postcards and can't make it to E-Day!, e-mail vivian@ohvec.org and we'll send you some.

Kanawha County Residents Please Make Calls
If you live in Kanawha County, we ask you to please call Senators
Sprouse and Foster to ask them to support Sludge Safety legislation. Please tell them that you want to see health and safety extend beyond the mine gate to mining communities and that's why you are asking their support for sludge safety laws. As long as sludge safety issues remain unaddressed, thousands of West Virginians will continue to live in danger.

No matter where you live in West Virginia, we encourage you to call your Senators and Delegates with the same message--you want to see health and safety extend beyond the mine gate to mining communities and that's why you are asking your legislators for their support for sludge safety laws. You can find all the contact info you need by clicking here. Next week we should have a bill number for you, so we'll send out more information then.
